ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Released in June 1983, BI・KI・NI marks the beginning of the creative partnership between Anri and Toshiki Kadomatsu that would soon produce TIMELY!! and COOOL. The album is unusually easy to read structurally: the first five tracks were written, composed, and arranged by Kadomatsu, creating a tightly connected run of boogie-oriented material including “Good Bye Boogie Dance,” “Dancin’ Blue,” “September Walkin’,” “Lady Sunshine,” and “Yes I’m in Love.” The second half shifts toward softer coastal pop, with songs by Takeshi Kobayashi and Anri herself. That split gives the record two distinct temperatures—harder rhythm and urban dance energy on one side, more relaxed resort atmosphere on the other. Kadomatsu’s contribution is important because it brings a stronger bass-and-rhythm emphasis into Anri’s sound without overwhelming her light, clear vocal style. BI・KI・NI is therefore less polished than TIMELY!! but historically just as interesting: it captures the exact point where Anri’s earlier soft-pop identity began transforming into the sophisticated boogie and AOR sound for which she later became internationally known.
